Privacy Notice

1. Responsible party

MyCoverMap is the responsible party for personal information collected directly through MyCoverMap. Address: South Africa. Privacy and Information Officer enquiries: privacy@mycovermap.co.za.

2. Personal information we collect

We collect only information reasonably required for the service you choose. This may include:

Calculator and planning information: investment amount and horizon, household expenses, debt, support period, existing cover, selected financial-planning topics and other answers you provide.
Enquiry details: name, cellphone number, email address where requested, province, timing and the context or result attached to the enquiry.
Limited life-cover preparation details: age band, smoker status and the reason you are considering cover. We do not ask for diagnoses or detailed medical history in the public calculator.
Consent records: the consent wording/version, enquiry consent, optional marketing consent and the date/time of submission.
Campaign and security information: UTM values, gclid, fbclid, landing page, referrer, browser/user-agent and a one-way hash derived from the network address for security and abuse prevention.
Analytics information: if you allow analytics, Google Analytics may process device/browser information, pages viewed and funnel events.

Information is collected directly from you when you use a tool, submit an enquiry or change your privacy preferences. Campaign parameters may also be supplied automatically by the page or advertising link you used.

3. Why we process it, and whether it is voluntary

We use personal information to provide requested tools, respond to enquiries, route a consented referral, keep evidence of consent, prevent abuse, measure performance where you permit analytics or marketing tags, and meet legal or regulatory obligations. Supplying contact information for an adviser enquiry is voluntary; if you do not provide the required details and consent, we cannot arrange the referral. Calculator results remain available without submitting the adviser form.

Future electronic marketing is a separate optional choice. It is not required to submit a specific enquiry.

If you request adviser contact, the information described in the consent shown with the form may be shared with the authorised financial adviser or financial services provider identified when you request contact, or an appropriately authorised adviser assigned to that enquiry. The receiving adviser/FSP is responsible for its own regulated processing after the referral.

We may also use operators and service providers for hosting, security, analytics, communications and website operation. They should receive only information reasonably necessary for their function and be subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not sell personal information to unrelated third parties merely because you used a MyCoverMap tool.

5. Cookies, analytics and cross-border processing

Essential browser storage supports security and remembers your privacy choice. Google Analytics loads only if you allow analytics. Optional advertising measurement such as Meta Pixel loads only if you allow marketing and the tag is configured. Our site code does not intentionally include lead-form names, phone numbers or email addresses in analytics or advertising events.

Some hosting, analytics, communication or advertising providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps required by POPIA and our supplier arrangements to ensure appropriate protection. See the Cookie Notice for more detail.

6. Retention and security

Lead information has a default retention target of 24 months, unless a longer or shorter period is reasonably required for the purpose of collection, a legal or regulatory obligation, dispute, fraud prevention or a valid contractual requirement. Information that is no longer required should be deleted, de-identified or otherwise disposed of securely.

Security measures include HTTPS in production, server-side validation, CSRF protection, rate limiting, restricted private configuration files and role/access controls. We also require appropriate safeguards from operators that process information on our behalf.

7. Your rights under POPIA

Subject to POPIA and lawful exceptions, you may ask whether we hold personal information about you, request access, request correction or deletion, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing, and opt out of direct marketing.

You may lodge a POPIA complaint with the Information Regulator through its eServices portal or at POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za. The Regulator lists 010 023 5200, 0800 017 160 and enquiries@inforegulator.org.za as contact channels.
